No compromise on safety as LRT3 faces fresh delay: Prasarana

Long‑distance testing reveals system issues, pushing LRT3 launch further

SHAH ALAM — Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) has once again delayed the opening of the LRT3 Shah Alam Line, shelving its year‑end debut after fresh safety issues emerged during final testing.

Amir Hamdan, Prasarana’s president and group chief executive officer, said the postponement came after long‑distance tests revealed intermittent software faults, necessitating tougher and more comprehensive trials.

“During intensive testing, we found intermittent software issues that appear only after extended runs, such as platform‑stopping accuracy, train movement response and automatic door operations.

“By strengthening our testing now, we avoid future disruptions and ensure a smooth, safe passenger experience from day one,” he told reporters during a media briefing today.

Amir stressed that Prasarana will not compromise on safety, reliability or system stability, in line with strict standards set by the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD).

“Only when every system performs at an optimal level and all issues are fully resolved can we consider opening the line.

“All repair and technical enhancement works are now being prioritised to ensure the Shah Alam Line is truly ready, stable and safe before it is opened to the public,” he said.

On the expected new launch date, Amir said Prasarana will hold another press conference in mid‑January to provide an update.

“If the systems are not yet stable, we cannot commit to a Q1 or Q2 opening. We will announce the latest readiness status in mid‑January,” he said.

Yesterday, media reports revealed that the delay was also linked to the lengthy process required by multinational firm Siemens to deliver and stabilise the signalling software.

Sources said improvement and validation work on the Siemens signalling system and its integration is still ongoing. To ensure smooth operations, the testing period has been extended so that any issues can be detected and resolved before the line opens — a step taken to guarantee LRT3 operates safely and reliably from day one.

Amir also clarified that the delay will not result in any additional project cost.

“We are taking the time now to get everything right — so that commuters can enjoy a modern, convenient and dependable service for the long term.

“Better to fix now, than cause delays later,” he said. — December 10, 2025
