Sepak Takraw Association of Malaysia president Datuk Sumali Reduan will serve as chef de mission for the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan, scheduled from September 19 to October 4.

Malaysia Lawn Bowls Federation president Datuk Awalan Abdul Aziz has been appointed to lead the contingent at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, set for 23 July to 2 August.

For the 2026 Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China, from April 22 to 30, Wushu Federation of Malaysia president Datuk Chong Kim Fatt will take charge, while former world wushu champion Wong Weng Son will head the Malaysian delegation at the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal, from October 31 to November 13.

The 2027 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, which will be hosted across both East and West Malaysia from 18 to 29 September, will see Taekwondo Malaysia president Azizul Annuar Adenan appointed as chef de mission for the East Malaysia contingent, with Malaysia Boxing Federation president Datuk Mohamad Iruan Zulkefli leading the West Malaysia team. These dual appointments reflect the nationwide hosting of the Games.

The nominations were first tabled at OCM’s recent executive board meeting and have received formal approval from Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari.

OCM president Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria expressed confidence in the selected leaders, highlighting their importance to Malaysia’s international sporting ambitions.

“We hope that the appointed chefs de mission will discharge their duties and responsibilities diligently to ensure the smooth and successful participation of Malaysia’s contingents in forthcoming multi-sport events,” Norza said in a statement today.

The Asian Games will be particularly significant, marking the start of the Olympic qualifying window for Los Angeles 2028 across multiple sports. – March 14, 2026
