KUALA LUMPUR – A 22-year-old Malaysian man has been charged with murder after a woman was found dead inside a lift at Choa Chu Kang in Singapore on May 26.

Mohamad Faiz Umar is accused of killing 21-year-old Chua Bee Ting between 8.53pm and 9.22pm at Lift A, Block 248 Choa Chu Kang Avenue 2. The details of how she was allegedly killed were not specified in court documents, Straits Times reported.

Preliminary investigations indicated that Faiz had allegedly stabbed Chua. Police confirmed that the pair knew each other, but the nature of their relationship has not been disclosed in court filings.

Authorities said they received an emergency call at around 9pm. Officers who arrived at the 12th-floor lift lobby found Ms Chua unresponsive.

A Singapore Civil Defence Force paramedic pronounced her dead at the scene.

A resident of the block told the daily that they heard a loud noise near the foot of the block, and upon looking down, saw a man lying under a dustbin on the ground floor. Faiz was arrested for murder and taken to the National University Hospital.

The case has been adjourned to June 18. Under Singapore law, anyone convicted of murder may face the death penalty. – May 28, 2026
