KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has formed a special task force to review the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) into Tabung Haji following the report’s public release.

In a statement today, the anti-graft agency said the report, published on the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) portal on July 29, will be examined to determine whether any offences have been committed.

MACC said its Investigation Division senior director, Datuk Mohd Hafaz Nazar, has been appointed to lead the task force.

According to the commission, the team will examine any legal issues involving corruption, criminal breach of trust, document forgery, abuse of power and money laundering under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 (Act 694), the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA) (Act 613), as well as any other related offences.

MACC said it would thoroughly review every issue highlighted in the RCI report.

“MACC is committed to ensuring that every issue highlighted in the report is duly examined. Should any breach of the law be identified, firm action will be taken regardless of the position or background of the individuals involved,” it said.

The commission also reaffirmed its commitment to conducting investigations independently and in accordance with the law.

“MACC always upholds the principles of the rule of law, accountability and integrity in carrying out its responsibilities, in line with ongoing efforts to strengthen national governance without interference from any party,” it added.

MACC also urged the public to refrain from speculating while the review and investigation process is underway.

“The cooperation of the public is requested to refrain from making any speculation on any issue until the investigation has been fully completed,” it said.

The RCI report on Tabung Haji, released on Wednesday night, found that weak governance, including alleged political interference in the pilgrim fund’s management and profit distribution between 2014 and 2020, was among its key findings.

The commission concluded that political involvement in Tabung Haji’s administration from 2014 to 2018, amid heightened political competition, allowed certain parties to use the institution’s decisions for political purposes, undermining public confidence and damaging its reputation. — July 30, 2026
