KUALA LUMPUR – Steven Gerrard stole the show with a hat-trick as the All-Star Premier League Legends edged the All-Star World Legends 7-6 in a thrilling exhibition match at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) yesterday.

Played over two 20-minute halves, the clash brought together some of football’s biggest names, including Gerrard, Michael Owen, Ryan Giggs, John Arne Riise, Alessandro Del Piero, Jaap Stam, Dida, and Javier Saviola.

Former Malaysian international Razman Roslan gave home fans another reason to cheer by scoring for the World Legends in an entertaining encounter filled with end-to-end action.

The World Legends struck first through Stam before Razman added a second to set the tone for a closely fought contest.

The Premier League Legends pulled one back through Riise, but Diego Capel soon extended the World Legends’ lead.

Gerrard then took centre stage, finding the net as goals continued to flow at a rapid pace. The former Liverpool captain combined seamlessly with his former Premier League counterparts, repeatedly threatening the World Legends’ defence.

David Bentley also got on the scoresheet before Gerrard struck again to complete his hat-trick.

For the World Legends, Fernando Morientes and Saviola were among those who found the net, with Saviola scoring twice to keep his side within touching distance until the final whistle.

Michael Owen added his name to the scoresheet for the Premier League side, redeeming himself after earlier missing an open-goal opportunity and firing another effort narrowly wide.

The match ended 7-6, with Gerrard named Man of the Match following his standout three-goal display.

The exhibition gave local fans a rare opportunity to watch several world football icons up close. The Premier League Legends squad featured Gerrard as captain alongside Owen, Giggs, Riise, Eidur Gudjohnsen, Danny Simpson, and Bentley.

The World Legends line-up included Italian icon Del Piero, Dutch defender Stam, former Brazilian goalkeeper Dida, Saviola, Morientes, Capel, Gregory van der Wiel, and Razman.

In a touching moment during the event, Riise presented his jersey to a lucky fan, adding to an evening that combined nostalgia, entertainment, and a avalanche of goals.

With both sides throwing players forward, the 40-minute showcase delivered non-stop entertainment, while Razman’s goal provided a memorable local highlight to a star-studded spectacle. — October 4, 2026
