Sabah graft video analysis involves 10 clips, completion expected in a week: MACC

Although forensic reports obtained, agency must scrutinise evidence carefully before concluding findings, said Tan Sri Azam Baki

KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) requires another week to complete its analysis of 10 separate video clips allegedly linked to a corruption scandal involving Sabah state assemblymen, said chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.

He explained that although forensic reports on the viral recordings have already been obtained, the agency must carefully scrutinise the evidence before reaching any conclusions.

Azam said the analysis is expected to be completed within a week, adding that he has been urging his officers to expedite the process, Bernama reported.

“Everyone is asking why it’s taking so long. But we have to understand, this involves 10 videos, not just one. So we need to examine them very carefully,” he told reporters after the Southeast Asia Anti-Corruption Conference 2025 in Putrajaya today.

He stressed the importance of a thorough and impartial investigation, noting that rushing the process could raise doubts about the integrity of the findings.

“We must be fair. Otherwise, there will be parties questioning whether the forensic work was impartial. So we need to do it properly,” Azam added.

The case centres on a series of viral videos that allegedly depict conversations involving bribery between certain individuals and Sabah lawmakers over the awarding of mineral mining licences in the state. – April 29, 2025
