KUALA LUMPUR – Grab Malaysia is said it is committed to ensuring that regulations are thoughtfully developed to reflect the realities of gig work, prioritising sound policies over rushed decisions that benefit all stakeholders.

In a statement, the e-hailing company expressed confidence that with the right framework, the Bill can protect gig workers’ welfare without compromising the flexibility and earning opportunities that have made gig work attractive to hundreds of thousands of Malaysians.

During a discussion with the Finance and Economy Select Committee at Parliament on August 18, chaired by Paya Besar MP Datuk Seri Mohd Shahar Abdullah, Grab proposed three guiding principles for the Bill: flexibility, balance, and collaboration.

On flexibility, Grab stressed that preserving workers’ ability to choose when and how they work is crucial, while balance requires clear, fair, and gradual implementation to avoid unintended consequences such as higher costs for consumers or lower earnings for workers.

Most importantly, Grab emphasised collaboration between regulators, platforms, and workers to ensure inclusivity across the entire gig sector, not just platform-based work.

Over the years, Grab has rolled out numerous initiatives to support its driver- and delivery-partners, including personal accident insurance, contributions to social protection schemes, upskilling programmes, and fuel discounts.

“By working hand-in-hand with policymakers, industry players, and workers, we believe Malaysia can set a benchmark for progressive gig economy regulation that safeguards livelihoods while unlocking innovation and growth,” Grab said. – August 21, 2025
