MELAKA – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is intensifying efforts to bolster family digital safety by highlighting parental control in its ongoing Safe Internet Campaign in the Hang Tuah Jaya parliamentary constituency.

Held alongside the Hang Tuah Jaya Parliamentary Excellent Student Award Ceremony, the event brought together school students and their parents to promote responsible and secure online behaviour, Bernama reported.

The initiative aims to raise the community’s digital literacy, with a strong focus on protecting families and preventing cybercrime.

“MCMC also emphasises efforts to enhance parents’ awareness and skills in setting parental controls on children’s devices to ensure safer and more controlled internet usage,” the commission said.

Aligned with its 2026 strategic plan, the campaign also targets grassroots communities and senior citizens, equipping them to recognise and avoid online financial scams.

In addition, the programme introduced a “Youth-to-Community” approach, involving student leaders from Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) who have completed the Safe Internet Campaign’s Training of Trainers (ToT).

“They will act as strategic advocacy facilitators by directly conducting modules with the local community, thereby helping to bridge the generational gap in digital literacy,” the statement added.

Since its launch, the campaign has reached 438 communities nationwide, including 25 in Melaka, with plans to expand to 200 targeted community campaigns in each state by year-end.

The programme was officiated by Deputy Higher Education Minister and Hang Tuah Jaya MP Adam Adli Abd Halim, with Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil also in attendance. – May 9, 2026
