Melaka polls loom: State Assembly expected to dissolve today

The Melaka State Legislative Assembly is expected to be dissolved this afternoon to pave the way for fresh state elections, following emergency summons issued to all Barisan Nasional assemblymen for a high-stakes briefing at Seri Negeri

KUALA LUMPUR — Speculation over the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly (DUN) is set to end this afternoon, with the state government expected to officially clear the decks for a snap state election.

Insiders reveal that the dissolution papers are understood to have already been signed, with all Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen receiving urgent invitations yesterday to gather at Seri Negeri by 2.30 pm today.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh is slated to make the official announcement during a press conference following a state government meeting and a post-Exco session.

The sudden move aligns with cryptic hints dropped by Ab Rauf in recent days regarding the state’s political timeline.

“There are only two Fridays left before the Melaka Governor’s Birthday celebrations,” Ab Rauf had teased earlier, signaling that the dissolution was imminent.

While the 15th Melaka state assembly term was only scheduled to naturally expire on December 27, 2026, today’s early dissolution shifts all eyes to the Election Commission (EC) to set key dates for the upcoming state polls. – September 22, 2026
