[WATCH] Cheap petrol, gig jobs and the price Malaysians haven’t paid yet

7:34 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – This week on Scoop Insight, the podcast explores three key issues bringing major changes to Malaysians: the Gig Workers Act, MyBudi subsidies, and rising oil prices.

Among the questions discussed is whether Malaysians are ready to face the impact as the government tries to balance protection, subsidies, and global pressures.

But inevitably, something has to be “sacrificed.”

For instance, the Gig Workers Act offers greater protection — but at what cost? And while subsidies may become fairer, they may not benefit everyone.

The same goes for rising oil prices — why petrol may not stay cheap for long.

Even if prices haven’t gone up yet, the pressure is building.

Scoop News Editor Azim Idris and journalist Sandru Narayanan discuss these pressing issues, especially in the wake of the West Asian crisis, which has driven global oil prices higher. – March 28, 2026
